Tooling
and checking balls
If
you have special inspection and measurement needs, Salem
Specialty Ball Company can also provide you with premium
TOOLING and CHECKING balls. A Two piece construction
is used to retain the high precision and finish of the
balls. All of our tooling balls are made from SS440C
material which is a martenistic-type stainless steel
that is used extensively in bearing applications that
require hardness, dimensional stability, corrosion-resistance
and toughness. This 440C material is measured on the
Rockwell C scale from 55-58 for hardness. A proprietary
welding technique is used in the assembly of the Ball
to the Shank, some have a shoulder and some are without.
Some tooling balls can be found in stock and some are
special made to order. Standard sizes are 1/8" to 1"
in increments of 1/8" size. Most shank lengths come
in a standard size in comparison to the size of the
ball that you are ordering. You must supply a drawing
of any special dimensions that you are inquiring about
when requesting the size of the ball and size of the
shank that would not be considered an industry standard.
